The goal of our breeding program is to produce intelligent, social, stable Hangin’ Tree Cowdogs with no health issues and all the appropriate drive and nerve for western ranching situations. Our dogs also excel in the cowdog trial world and dog sports such as agility and frisbee.
We have our own idea of what a “complete” stockdog is. All of our breeding stock is selected off of these criteria. Above all else they have to be intelligent and easy to train. Tough, aggressive and able to handle any type of cattle but also able to handle small stock such as sheep and goats. Show no signs of dog or people aggression or sensitivity. Have a desire to work stock at a young age. They must possess good bone structure with a deep, wide chest with short or slick hair to handle the long, hot work days on western ranches. Along with there intelligence they must have a good nose and ability to wind and hunt cattle.
We are currently linebreeding, developing three different “lines” of Hangin’ Trees. In our opinion there has been little consistency in this young breed. The only way to have consistent litters of deep quality is to line breed top quality individuals. We are continually on the look out for the next outlier to add to our breeding program.
