Butch is red & white, smooth coat, prick-eared male Border Collie. He is intact and has bred one female and produced a nice litter of pups. Butch bites both ends but prefers the head. He has a trial handle on him but has experienced all aspects of ranch work. He’s been used to work chutes, load the team roping pen, load trailers, clear pens, and drive cattle down the highway.
The most prized feather in my stockman’s cap comes from the sale of my dog “Zeke” to legendary trainer, mentor, and friend, Roy Cox, in May of 2022. At that point, I had put 120 days of training on Zeke and was working him on cattle in an arena-sized pen. Zeke was then shown in the South West Cattledog Futurity in November of 2022 by current owner Mike Thompson of Hobbs, New Mexico.
Before purchasing Zeke, Roy told me, “As a friend, I’m telling you not to sell this dog, dogs like this don’t come along very often.” I replied, “Roy, this is a huge compliment to me, that you would want to buy my dog.” To which he said, “This is a compliment to myself. Two years ago, when I started doing clinics for you guys in Wyoming, I wasn’t buying any of your dogs.”
Zeke is nearly a full sibling to my good dog Butch. Both are sired by ROW Deuce, owned by Harward Performance Livestock. ROW Deuce is a thick-built, dirty tough son of the legendary “Daybells Walker.” The same Daybells Walker that Roy Cox will tell you is the best cattle dog he has ever trained. Zeke and Butch’s dams, Gracie and Z5 Beauty, are full sisters out of the coveted TH Moss/Belle cross. If you
believe in reincarnation, I am certain that Gracie and Z5 Beauty were alligators in their previous life.
True to their breeding, Zeke and Butch are top-notch cattle dogs. They bite both ends yet prefer the head, possess the confidence to approach cattle straight in, have natural rate, and are biddable, sharp-handling dogs.
I am proud to offer Butch at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale in Red Bluff, California, on January 24, 2025. Please see the videos of Butch on my social media pages.
