Katy- We acquired, at a age of almost 2 she has the friendliest set of eyes that makes you take a liking to her really quick! She is a small dog weighing in at about 35-38 pounds. She has a funny walk but it does not seem to slow her down as Katy can move fast when the needs arise, as you will see in video.
She was started and worked by another trainer. He has a quiet touch in his training techniques, where I am much louder and more demanding and it has taken a while for her and I to get on the same page. I work Katy using voice commands, the first trainer had her on voice and whistles so I’m sure it can be brought back quickly. I have used her on sheep and heifers she does both fine. she has a nice consistent lie down to her. Never worked her on momma cows. she has a strong run in bite on her away side –sometimes – I’m not sure if its a confidence thing or just immaturity or a sign of weakness as she does this only on the away. Not an overpowerful dog, and I believe that where the running bite is coming from as Katy likes to keep the heifers moving. Katy often takes bite right straight to the nose as I have seen her get flipped in air several times if cattle go to getting heavy with her.
I have trialed Katy before and she has all the work and want a trial handler could ask for. She needs improvement on her out runs, as she comes in tight sometimes and stirs them before starts fetching back to me. I think Katy will make a wonderful trial dog and I believe she will work for any level of handler. She likes attention so the more she gets the harder she wants to please. I believe a handler with just Katy or maybe 0ne other dog would be a good fit as she really loves ALL the attention. Other females that become aggressive to her, she tries to avoid, but she also can get pretty rough when they jump on her. She’s no stranger to being hauled in a dog box , kennels well, and ties out well.
Katy comes from a strong working Dog Pedigree as the legendary Cap is on both sides of her pedigree back 3 and 5 along with some other well known sires and females that have been proven in the cattle dog industry for many years. Katy needs lots work, needs to be finished, loved, and she will make someone a great companion for life !
